Volunteers Needed This Year! |

Digby Morgan is working closely with WRVS, on a non-cost
basis, to help the charity design and implement a
campaign to find 170 volunteers who will, in turn,
focus on recruiting more than 12,000 other volunteers
in the next year. WRVS employ over 80,000 volunteers,
providing vital services to older and vulnerable people
in their homes, in hospitals and communities.
Volunteers are required to replace the
6,000 or so that leave every year – mainly due
to age or relocation – and to help WRVS grow
existing services and develop exciting new services.
Recruiting this many volunteers will be no mean feat
and Digby Morgan is working hand-in-hand with the
charity to help it identify and recruit the dedicated
individuals that are required simply to implement
the overall volunteer recruitment campaign –
working as recruiters, regional team leaders and trainers.
Jane Comben, WRVS’ Director for
Corporate Affairs, Marketing & People, commenting
on the campaign, said: “The successful identification
and enrolment of 170 experienced recruitment staff
to join us as volunteers, is a Herculean task and
we are grateful to Digby Morgan for their expertise
and innovation. With their assistance we are confident
that we’ll be able to reach out to thousands
in HR and associated industries – as well as
those from other backgrounds who may have an affinity
for HR and recruitment issues – and encourage
them to come forward and offer us their support and,
crucially, their time”.
Commenting
on the work that the company is undertaking with WRVS,
John Maxted, Digby Morgan’s MD, said: “We’ve
produced a full report for WRVS highlighting the potential
opportunities and sources the charity could use to
find these professionals. For example, as an integral
part of this programme we are recommending a full
marketing communications programme utilising –
and, in fact, targeting – traditional as well
as extensive online and ‘new media’.
“We are also helping with
prospect targeting. For instance, in addition to reaching
out to qualified staff in full time positions and
retired folk with time to spare, we are supporting
WRVS in targeting HR, social care and psychology students
at universities and colleges. And, with Corporate
Social Responsibility high on the agenda at the moment,
we are also working with the charity to engage with
companies and influence them to support employee volunteering."
WRVS was founded in 1938 in order to propagate
air raid precautions. However, as the war progressed,
its volunteers took on an increasingly diverse
range of roles and, post-war, this developed
still further with the launch of ‘meals
on wheels’, providing vital services within
the fledging NHS and a host of other offerings
including supporting the emergency services
in disaster scenarios. In 2004, more than 80,000
volunteers:
- Worked with over 250 NHS trusts and 140
local authorities and were written into 98%
of all local authority emergency contingency
plans
- Delivered more than 8.5 million ‘meals
on wheels’ and provided 168 library
schemes delivering over half a million books,
films etc to more than 22,000 people
- Travelled in excess of 2.3 million miles
in 60 community transport schemes
- Assisted over 35,000 people through community
assistance projects and community transport
schemes
- Supported 800 social clubs, 500 lunch clubs
and 55 tea bars
- Enabled 90,000 people to enjoy social contact
through community centres, social transport
schemes and home library services
