Points in The Gulf |

Not
content with getting fees on the board during
the week, Jono Venter of our Dubai office has
also been busy getting points on the board in
another sense, playing in December’s Dubai
Rugby 7s.
His team, the Dubai Dragons,
was recently crowned Gulf Men’s Champions
for the second successive year. In stark contrast
to the weather in London, the rugby was played
in searing heat under cloudless skies. Coming
into the tournament off the back of an intensive
training schedule, the Dragons didn’t
concede a point throughout the group stages,
humbling opposition from Sri Lanka, Oman and
other clubs in the UAE. They continued their
march into the final by trouncing a team from
Qatar and faced local rivals, Dubai Hurricanes,
in the final held in front of a packed stadium
of over 30,000 people.
Roaring into an early lead, the Dragons outclassed
their opponents and stormed to a brilliant and
deserving 47-12 finish. The celebrations continued
long into the night but the next day saw the
shorts and boots exchanged for suit and tie
and the grass of the rugby pitch exchanged for
the paved halls of the DIFC as Jono returned
to work.
It’s not only his rugby career which is
moving on apace. Jono is leaving Digby Morgan
soon to work for Standard Chartered in Dubai
and everyone at Digby Morgan wishes him all
the best in his future career.
