Welcome
to the autumn issue of Human Resourcefulness
which comes at the end of an exciting summer here
at Digby Morgan.
Firstly,
we were proud and delighted to once again support
one of the industry’s key annual events,
the HR Excellence Awards. For the third year running,
Digby Morgan was a title sponsor at Human Resources
magazine’s recent Excellence Awards and,
in particular, of the award for HR Director of
the Year – won, in an online poll of the
magazine’s readers, by Jane Hanson, head
of HR at First Direct.
Dubai News
Secondly, as you will read elsewhere in this newsletter,
we are delighted to have become the first, pure
play HR recruitment consultancy to have been granted
an official licence to operate from our own offices
in Dubai. We’ve been successfully running
a dedicated Middle East team out of our London
offices for some time now but, by the time you
read this, our office in the Monarch Office Tower
on Sheikh Zayed Road will be open for business
and we fully expect this to consolidate our leading
position in this exciting market. And watch this
space for more international announcements as
we continue to expand the Digby Morgan brand across
the globe.
HR Networking
On a personal note, I’m always keen to help
promote the value and influence of the HR profession,
so I was delighted recently to have been made
the Vice Chair of the London HR Connection. Now,
a CIPD Special Interest Group, the London HR Connection
is a free to join, professional network providing
regular informal lunches for anyone with a vested
interest in HR to network with their peers and
hear from experts on challenging and stimulating
topics.
In fact, in this very issue of Human Resourcefulness,
the newly appointed Chair of the Group, Weedie
Sisson, discusses how sharpening your networking
skills can be hugely beneficial in these more
‘uncertain’ times.
2008 and Beyond
Without a doubt 2008 is proving to be a challenging
year for all of us, but we remain positive about
the market and are still seeing plenty of activity.
The strategic role and importance of HR is continuing
to rise and there will always be great opportunities
for good candidates.
I hope you enjoy our newsletter and please do
come back to me with your feedback for future
editions.

-An
Update From Down Under |
Despite
tales of economic doom and gloom that seem to be dominating
the news elsewhere in the developed world, 2008 is looking

Challenges Within The NHS |
There
are major challenges ahead for the UK’s Strategic Health
Authorities (SHAs) and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). One fundamental
challenge is around the people issues and whether organisations
have the internal infrastructures and the right people in
the right places to deliver the change agenda that is being
demanded of them.
