Welcome to the first issue of Human Resourcefulness in 2010

The recent news that, finally, we are ‘officially out of recession’ (if only by a positive growth rate of 0.1%!) is welcome indeed and, taken alongside the recent, more positive statistics on unemployment, I’m sure that we’re all breathing a collective, if cautious, sigh of relief.

It’s often said that the recruitment business is a pretty good barometer of what’s occurring in the wider business world and our own numbers would seem to reflect the slow upturn. In fact, December 2009 marked Digby Morgan’s fifth consecutive month of increased ‘new job orders taken’ when compared to the equivalent months in 2008.

Interestingly, recent months have seen a more buoyant senior end of the market and, as you’ll read in more detail elsewhere in our newsletter, some sectors are seeing significant levels of business growth. Although much of this is cyclical and we wouldn’t necessarily expect it to continue at this level through the year, it’s all very welcome.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for consistently choosing Digby Morgan to source HR talent and to make career moves - we appreciate the belief and support that you have shown in our brand over the past twenty plus years. Without a doubt, 2010 will still be a challenging year for all of us but we are increasingly positive about the market, are seeing plenty of activity and are predicting further growth. The strategic role and importance of HR continues to rise and has certainly been proven over the last few years.

I hope you enjoy our newsletter and please do come back to me with your feedback for future editions

John Maxted
CEO
